norm; it is very similar to the crowds being served in our tasting room. They seem to just flow
through with some leaving to be replaced by the next round. Live back ground music would be a
perfect description of what we are trying to accomplish during our wine club appreciation
months. The intent is for the enjoyment and relationship building of our guests. We charge no
admission and make zero dollars with this aspect of our business plan. Our current belief is that
we are trying to give the best impression and experience that we can to our wine tasters. It is just
as important to us as having beautiful grounds, friendly staff, and excellent wines. Same goes
for having food available for them as well. We typically provide outside licensed, commercial
caterers to add to this experience. Again, we make zero dollars from this aspect. In fact, we lose
money because we usually buy food for our wine club members. We regard these items as
extensions to our goals in promoting our wines to the community and well within the current
ordinance that is regulating our business.
However....
We also realize that original documents pertaining to the regulation of wineries, is
vague and ambiguous to say the least. Perhaps it was intended to be that way on purpose,
allowing wineries to be creative in attracting visitors to our region. It is our belief that
interpretations have varied widely and to some extent have been abused. We also believe that
guidelines and definitions that are currently in development are a step in the right direction.
With that being said, we would like to amend our current site approval to include 32
marketing events in attempt to address the notice to comply dated: November 17, 2014.
This would allow Macchia to continue serving the wine enthusiast currently enjoying
our wonderful appellation as well as creating a reputation for presenting some truly world-class
wines in the manner in which the wine-drinking public has become accustomed.
We feel this resolution is well within our right in so much as it does nothing to
contradict the intent of the law that we are currently governed by. To be completely transparent,
a brief description of"events"with dates and expected number of attendees will follow.
We are asking for this right to be considered, but are aware that some dialog may be
necessary to assure compatibility on both sides of this delicate issue.
Thank you,
Tim Holdener Lani Holdener
