• Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study 1rrrcon
Sun Valley Express Truck Center■ Acampo, California
August 14, 2017 ■ Terracon Project No. NA177026
Boring Depth Interval (ft) Soil Type Unified Soil
Classification
5.0- 10.0 Silty Sand, cemented, brown SM
10.0- 15.0 Silty Sand, cemented, brown SM
15.0-20.0 Sandy silt, cemented, brown SM
20.0-25.0 Clayey sandy silt, brown SC
P2 3.5 Sandy Silt, brown ML
1.5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology
•
A visual inspection of the shallow soils from the test hole points to unfavorable conditions for
shallow septic disposal due to the surface silty soils and the underlying cemented sand and silt.
These characteristics do not allow for good seepage or percolation. Generally speaking,
uncemented coarse-grained soil has a greater potential for percolation than fine-grained or
cemented soil. Given the presence of the upper silty and cemented soils, seepage pits should be
utilized with leach lines which is typical in various areas of the county. The seepage pits should
be the primary absorption method.
1.6 Percolation Test Information
1.6.1 Percolation Test Locations
Refer to Section 1.5.1 and Appendix A, Exhibit 2.
1.6.2 Number of Percolation Tests
One shallow (3.5 feet) and one deep (25 feet) percolation test was conducted.
• 1.6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
The soil borings were excavated on June 20, 2017. Approximately two inches of "pea gravel'
was placed in the bottom of the open boring. A 2.0-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations
towards the bottom was installed on top of the gravel and the annular space was backfilled with
"pea gravel". Presaturation of the percolation test hole occurred approximately 24 hours prior to
the day of testing on June 22, 2017. The deep boring P1 was saturated with a water column
approximately 0.5 feet over gravel. The shallow boring P2 was saturated with a water column
approximately 12 inches over gravel.
1.6.4 Condition of Borings after Presaturation
•
Responsive■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 9
