• Two pumps were observed along the river to the north of the building cluster.
The western of these was located in a pump house and powered by electricity,
while the second was powered by a generator.
To the north of the Site was a field planted with row crops. To the west were
railroad tracks, followed by a vineyard. To the south was an irrigation ditch,
followed by a cornfield and an equipment yard. The Mokelumne River and New
Hope Road bound the Site to the east; beyond these were vineyards and open
fields.
5.0 INTERVIEWS
5.1 Interview with Client
Aleck Dambacher was interviewed during the site visit on October 13, 2015. At
this time, he indicated that the Site has been in his family since 1939. He stated
that the Site is currently a vineyard, but was previously used to grow row crops,
wheat, and corn.
Mr. Dambacher indicated that the main house was built in 1947, the secondary
house in 1985, the garage in 1990, and the larger shop in 1998 or 1999. He did
not know the construction date of the mobile home but indicated that it was
moved to its current location when the levee was rebuilt in 1993. He indicated
that each septic system was installed the year its house was built or placed. Mr.
Dambacher added that the mobile home had had a septic system at its former
location; the system was demolished by the levee contractor. He did not know
the ages of the wells but stated that the two by the secondary house are quite
old.
Mr. Dambacher indicated that an underground storage tank was once located
near the corner of the main house. The tank leaked and was removed, along
with the contaminated soil, in the 1950s or 1960s, he said. He stated that the
two aboveground storage tanks near the shop were used in the past but are now
empty. Mr. Dambacher indicated that the vineyard is farmed by Stokes Brothers,
and no agricultural chemicals are stored on-site.
Mr. Dambacher was not aware of any buried trash, dumping, or other
environmental issues affecting the Site now or in the past.
LOGE 1521 4
