Fig. 1 —Typical precast segments Fig. 2— Batch plant and buildings <br /> Figure 1 shows a typical stack of precast concrete segments. These 6 pieces bolt together inside the <br /> tunnel to form the tunnel liner. Figure 2 shows the concrete batch plant situated between two casting <br /> buildings. For the Newton Road project we would only have a single building. The facility in Figure <br /> 2 was built in the City of Palmdale in 2001. <br /> The casting is done on a semi-automated assembly line called a carrousel. The concrete from the <br /> batch plant is delivered into the building via a bucket on rails, and dumped into the steel molds as <br /> shown in Figure 3. The concrete is finished by hand as shown in figure 4, and then proceeds into the <br /> steam curing chamber as shown in Figure 5. <br />
