2.2 Site and Vicinity Characteristics
The subject property is located in a mixed light industrial and residential area of Stockton. The
immediately surrounding properties consist of light industrial and warehouse buildings to the
south, north, southwest beyond Report Avenue and northwest beyond Report Avenue, including
the former Sunnyland Fruit Company to the south. No physical addresses were observed for
these properties. The adjacent properties to the west beyond Report Avenue are occupied by
residences, and the adjacent property to the east is occupied by railroad spurs.
r
2.3 Geology and Hydrogeology
According to information obtained from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the area
•- surrounding the subject property is underlain by alluvium deposits of the Holocene-era. Based
on a review of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Soil Survey for the area of the subject
property, the soils in the vicinity of the subject property are classified by light-grey to grayish-
brown or yellowish-brown gravel, sand, silt, and clay. Texture varies from cobble gravel to clay,
mixed or interbedded laterally and vertically in places.
Based on a review of the USGS Stockton West, California Quadrangle Topographic Map, the
subject property is situated approximately 26 feet above mean sea level, and the local
topography is sloped gently to the southwest. The nearest surface water is the Stockton
Diverting Canal, located approximately 1,800 feet to the northeast of the property. Based upon
topographical map interpretation, the direction of groundwater flow beneath the subject property
is inferred to be to the southwest. Based on information obtained from the State Water
` Resources Control Board for a nearby site, the depth to groundwater in the vicinity of the subject
property is expected to be encountered at 41 to 68 feet below ground surface (bgs).
Phase I Environmental Site Assessment AEI
Project No.274968
..
