Soils 195 is considered to have severe limitations to applications of agricultural manure effluent.
It is recommended to reduce application rates and use split applications of manure effluent and
flow deep into the soil profile due to low retention of this soil. Note that applications of agricultural
manure effluent improve available water capacity.4
Madera Soil:
Depth of Soil Available Water Capacity Water in Soil
(inches of water/inches of (inches)
soil)
0-10 0.11 0-1.10
w 10-20 0.06 0.60-1.20
20-60 --
Total Available Water
Capacity: 0.60-2.30
Alamo Soil:
Depth of Soil Available Water Capacity Water in Soil
(inches of water/inches of (inches)
soil
_ 0-12 0.115 0-1.38
12-25 0.135 1.62-3.375
25-34 0.135 3.375-4.59
34-60 --
Total Available Water
Capacity: 4.995-9.345
• Dense layer (Bulk density), g/cc (grams/cubic centimeter):
Bulk density, soil mass per unit volume, is expressed in grams per cubic centimeter. It affects
infiltration, permeability and available water capacity. Course textured soils have a slight
limitation because of bulk density. Medium to fine textured soils in which the bulk density in the
surface layer and subsoil is less than 1.7g/Cm3 have slight limitations for application of agricultural
manure effluent. Medium to fine textured soils in which the bulk density in these layers is more
than 1.7g/cm3 have moderate limitations.4
Soils at the site are considered to be <1.7 grams/cc, which classifies them as having a slight
limitation to applications of agricultural manure effluent. It is recommended that applications of
solids are when soil moisture content is such that the field is in tillable condition. Note that
applications of agricultural manure effluent reduce bulk density and minimize compaction.4
Refer to page 30 for Endnotes and Reference Sources
Soil Suitability Study
Property Name and Address.
