A total of 49 permits at
addresses on N. Sowles Road were reviewed for any indications of serious septic percolation
problems. There was 7 of the 49 residences that had a repair history attributable to failure of the
septic system. Where data was available, the length of service without repair was 10-to 16 years.
These statistics do not indicate a serious contamination threat or health hazard.
The Planning Department of SJC furnished a printout.(see App. `A') The Zoning is AL-5. The
residence was constructed in 1974 and has one bath and one bedroom. The second
dwelling/studio is not described. It may be classified as an outbuilding. Pasture being the most predominate use of the sites.
The SJC Agricultural Commissioner's office checked for any record of chemical use permits and
none were found.
Aerial Photographs
Aerial photographs for the years 1957, 1984 and 1993 were furnished by EDR,Inc. The
photographs do not center the subject site and thus do not show the surrounding area to the west
of N. Sowles Road. The subject site in 1984 is shown as pasture or vacant of any orchard
operations and likewise for the 1993 aerial.
Topographic Maps
Topographic maps for the years 1953, 1968 and 1993 are included as furnished by EDP,Inc. The
1953 edition shows surface drainage to the west, just south of the site and very little residential
development in the area. The land slopes approximately 9
feet,vertically, in 5,280 feet horizontally.
Owner Statements
/ The owner questionnaire was signed and forwarded by Margaret Veerkamp's son. The
i questionnaire indicates pasture as primary use. The former owner also utilized the area as pasture
in the raising of calves. A small structure existed for use in milking when the property was
purchased. Mrs. Veerkamp stated at one time she signed a contract to sell the parcel via lease-
purchase. The buyer increased the number of horses in the pasture and purchased additional hay.
The lease-purchase contract was voided and the owner remained in residence. The questionnaire
does not indicate any probable source of contamination. The areas adjacent to the site present no
visible sources of contamination.
Additional Record Sources Check
The EDF,Inc.
