Land use of the surrounding properties was generally agricultural and residential. 1
Figure 1 shows the setting of the subject property (7.5 Minute United States Geological Survey
(USGS) Topographic Series, Stockton East Quadrangle, California) at an elevation of
approximately 15 feet above mean sea level (MSL) and in an area of low topographic relief. The
regional slope of the area is relatively gentle and dips toward the west.
At the time of the 22 May and 17 June 2008 site visits, the subject property southern property line was
flanked by a brick and wrought iron fence with a wrought iron gate that opened to the property's
asphalt driveway off of East Highway 26 east of Nord Road. The remaining property line was bound
by mixed wood and wire fencing. The driveway led to the properties two residences; the southern-
most residence, residence 1, included a detached garage/dressing room for the residence swimming
pool. A domestic well was visible west of the residence 1 swimming pool. Septic systems were
located immediately north of both residences.
East of residence 2, the driveway led to the barn building complex, which was comprised of
approximately six structures,a silo(containing firewood)and a corral.The six structures of the barn
complex included the following:a garage;a barn utilized for storage with a repair shop at the western
end of the structure;an inactive stall utilized for storage;a stall containing horses;a long rectangular
stall utilized for storage and containing a chicken coop at the eastern end;and a long warehouse. An
irrigation well and pump were visible east of the eastern-most structure (long rectangular stall with
chicken coop) of the barn complex along the property line.
The location of the subj ect property and the surrounding area are illustrated on Figure 1;main features
of the subject property are depicted in Figure 2;photographs of the subject property are provided in
Appendix A.
3.0. REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING
The subject property is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California,a large,
elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been filled
to its present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent,
creating a nearly horizontal alluvial plain, extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to
the Klamath Mountains in the north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province are
comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively. Rocks composing the
basement complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed to be
metamorphic and igneous in origin. The northern and southern portions of the Great Valley Province
have been designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, respectively.
Advanced GeoEavironmental,Inc.
