November 23, 2004
NOA Project Number: E040140A
3.5 Nitrate Loading Scenario
A nitrate loading scenario was performed to determine the impact from the proposed project. The
scenario utilizes the variables discussed previously which represent the estimated conditions and
uses associated with this project. The following table presents a summary of the nitrate loading
calculation.
Table 2.
Summary of Nitrate Mass Balance Analysis.
Parcel Result Acres Average Effluent Leachfield Deep
(Nc) * (A) Daily Flow Concen- Denitrifi- Percolation
APN 013- (mg/L-N) (Q) tration(Nw) cation(d) of Rainfall
050-17 (Table 1) (mg/L-N) (R)
(gpd) (Plate 10)
(in.)
Plate 11 1.5 81.85 574 45 10% 6.84
` * Maximum contaminant level(MCL) for nitrate in drinking water is 10 mg/L-N.
3.6 Impact of Nitrate Loading to Nearby Water Sources
Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading balance indicates
that the proposed development on the parcel may cause a build up of nitrate in the ground water of
1.5 mg/L-N over the long term. This build up is much less than 10 mg/L-N, the maximum
contaminate level for nitrate in drinking water. Generally,if the build up is less than 10-mg/L-N, no
mitigation is needed. The result of the nitrate loading analysis indicates that the use density
associated with this project is low.
Since the Site is relatively flat,we do not foresee percolating effluent affecting any surface water
resources.
how
r..
7 06
