Musco Family Olive Company - 22 - 12 December 2006
s
2. Staff recommends establishing deep groundwater Water Quality Protection Standards
(WQPS). Interim WQPS can be established using the Regional (Hanson) Well. Interim
WQPS were based on the mean of the historical data set plus two standard deviations
for the CDCs shown in Table 11.
Table 11
Interim Water Quality Protection Standards for Deep Groundwater
Constituent/Parameter Concentration Limit m IL
H 6.5 .- 8.4
Electrical Conductivity 2,274
Total Dissolved Solids 1,369
Calcium 182
Chloride 259
Ma nesium 193
Nitrate 10
Potassium 9.8
Sodium 375
Sulfate 521
Bicarbonate 310
Boron 2.79
Further evaluation of Regional (Hanson) Well should be conducted to determine if'a
dedicated background monitoring well(s) should be installed to better represent deep
groundwater quality. The location and screen interval would be specifically designed to
monitor this zone.
3. Staff recommends Musco install a shallow well(s) up or side gradient of the
groundwater flow and outside the influence of the waste discharge to establish
background groundwater concentrations in the shallow zone. One area to consider is
the area near the Regional Well.
4. Staff recommends that Musco conduct an offsite groundwater investigation
east-northeast of the facility to define the limits of groundwater impacts. Based on the
results of the offsite investigation, staff recommends that Musco install a minimum of
three shallow and two deep offsite groundwater monitoring wells east-northeast of the
facility.
5. Staff recommends that Musco conduct an offsite groundwater investigation north of the
Reservoir to define the limits of groundwater impacts. Musco should install additional
shallow monitoring wells into the first encountered groundwater at the northern
boundary of Field 55 West, downgradient of well MW-15. Also, additional shallow and
deep monitoring wells should be installed near Via Nicolo to monitor the shallow and
deep north-northwest groundwater flow.
