It is mildly toxic by ingestion and dermal
_ exposure and nontoxic by inhalation;it has no suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects
in humans.
ETHEPHON 2: A General Use Pesticide(GUP); a plant growth regulator that acts via liberation
of ethylene, which is absorbed by the plant and interferes in the growth process. Acute animal
toxicity studies in a few species show that via the oral and dermal routes, ethephon is relatively non-
toxic except in hens; symptoms characteristic of anticholinesterase activity were observed in
humans. Some teratogenic effects were suspected, there were no known carcinogenic or mutagenic
effects.
Ethephon was found to have low to moderate mobility in soils ranging in texture from loamy sand
to peat and silt loam based on soil thin layer chromatography tests. Therefore, the potential for
contamination of groundwater appears to be low to moderate. In soil, rapid degradation to
phosphoric acid, ethylene, and chloride ions was reported. No water data was available.
ETHREL: See ETHEPHON
GLYPHOMAX (glyphosate): Another name for ROUNDUP.
IN PLACE: Petroleum distillate drift retardant for the application of agricultural chemicals.
KINETIC: Non-ionic wetter/spreader/penetrant adjuvant. It is considered harmful for ingestion,
dermal exposure and inhalation. It has no suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in
humans.
LANNATE 90SP (methomyl): A Restricted Use Pesticide (GUP) classified as toxicity class I
.. because of the high risk to humans. Methomyl was introduced in 1966 as a broad spectrum
insecticide. Methomyl is effective in two ways: (a)as a"contact insecticide,",killing target insects
upon direct contact, and (b) as a "systemic insecticide" because of its capability to cause overall
"systemic" poisoning in target insects. It is capable of being absorbed by plants without being
"phytotoxic" or harmful, to the plant. Methomyl is highly toxic by ingestion, moderately toxic by
inhalation and slightly toxic by dermal exposure; it is generally toxic to fish, aquatic invertebrates,
birds and bees and mammals. It has no suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in
humans.
Methomyl has low persistence in the soil environment, with a reported half-life of approximately 14
days. Because of its high solubility in water, and low affinity for soil binding, methomyl may have
_ potential for groundwater contamination. It is very mobile in sandy loam and silty clay loam soils,
but only slight leaching was observed in a silt loam and in a sandy soil. Methomyl is rapidly
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
