_ 31 August 2004
AGE-NC Project No.04-1188
degraded by soil microbes; it is not expected to be found in treated soil after the growing season in
_ which it is applied. Aqueous solutions of methomyl have been reported to decompose more rapidly
on aeration, in sunlight, or in alkaline media. The estimated aqueous half-life for the insecticide is
6 days in surface water and over 25 weeks in groundwater.
POAST (sethoxydim): A General Use Pesticide (GUP) classified as toxicity class III - slightly
toxic.Sethoxydim is a selective post-emergence herbicide used to control annual and perennial grass
weeds in broad-leaved vegetable, fruit, field, and ornamental crops. It is not considered to be
mutagenic, carcinogenic or teratogenic at expected doses.
Sethoxydim is of low soil persistence;reported field half-lives are 5 to 25 days. Laboratory leaching
tests have suggested that sethoxydim could leach in soil, however, in field tests, it did not leach
below the top 4 inches of soil, and it did not persist.
PRISM HERBICIDE (clethodim): This compound is a General Use Pesticide(GUP)in toxicity
class II and must carrythe label WARNING.Clethodim is a selective post-emergence cyclohexenone
herbicide used to control annual and perennial grasses in a wide variety of broad leaf crops. It is
moderately toxic by ingestion but not known to be toxic by dermal exposure or inhalation. It has no
suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in humans.
Clethodim is of low persistence in most soils with a reported half-life of approximately 3 days.
Breakdown is mainly by aerobic processes, although photolysis may make some contribution. The
main breakdown products in soils under aerobic conditions are sulfoxide, sulfone and oxazole
sulfone. EPA has stated "under present use patterns and under most circumstances clethodim does
not appear to threaten groundwater".It maybe highly persistent in the aquatic environment;reported
half-lives for clethodim in the aquatic environment are 128 days in the aqueous phase and 214 days
in the sediment. The main pathway for degradation of clethodim in the aquatic environment is
anaerobic metabolism by microorganisms, however, due to the low persistence and mobility of the
compound, it is unlikely to be found in surface waters.
QUEST: Classified as toxicity class III-slightly toxic.A water conditioning agent(inorganic salts)
to enhance pesticide performance by modifying factors such as pH and water hardness plus
ammoniacal nitrogen to enhance uptake. Quest is slightly toxic by ingestion and dermal contact;
'r these is no known toxicity for inhalation. It has no suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic
effects in humans.
R11: Non-ionic wetter/spreader/penetrant adjuvant. It is considered harmful for ingestion, dermal
exposure and inhalation. It has no suspected teratogen, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in humans.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
r..
