I t
r17 August 2005
AGE-NC Project No 98-0533
' 313 Logging
The soil sample duplicates were utilized for field characterization The soil was screened for the
' presence of organic vapor using an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector
(PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 OeV, calibrated to isobutylene), and the readings were
recorded on the boring logs Soil was visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil
' Classification System(Boring Logs, Appendix A)
' 3 2 GROUND WATER MONITORING EVENT
Ground water monitoring procedures were performed as outlined in the AGE-prepared Preliminary
' Site Assessment Work Plan, and as approved by the EHD by letter dated 23 February 2000
3 2 1 Well Monitoring and Evacuation
On 31 May 2002, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in all
lie three monitoring wells relative to the tops of the well casings After the depth-to-ground water
measurements were collected, casing water in the monitoring wells was evacuated using polyvinyl
' chloride (PVC) bailers Approximately 6 25 to 6 50 gallons of water were evacuated from each of
the monitoring wells, equivalent to three casing-water volumes per well
' Temperature, pH and conductivity were measured at 1-gallon intervals, using an Oakton water
analyzer to monitor pH, temperature and conductivity of the purged water, the field data logs are
provided in Appendix A Purged water was temporarily stored on-site in 55-gallon drums
3 2 2 Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples
' Water samples were collected from each monitoring well using new disposable bailers after allowing
the wells to achieve a minimum 80% recovery of the pre-purge water volume The samples were
' transferred into laboratory-supplied 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative The sample vials were then labeled with the monitoring
well designation, date, time of sampling and the sampler's initials The samples were transported in
a chilled container under chain of custody to MAI for analysis The samples were analyzed for
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as aviation gasoline (TPH-ag) in accordance with
I EPA Method 5030/8015M,
b
 10
rV
Advanced CcoEnvironmental,Inc
I
