' 7.2 Analysis Methodology - Solidified grout samples from MW-3, 5, and 6 were
selected for chemical analysis since the grout from these wells would be
' representative of each of the three different grout mixes used on this project.
The grout samples submitted to Chromalab were tested by performing a
Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) extraction and analyzing
' for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Diesel(EPA test method 3510/8015). The
duplicate grout samples shipped to Halliburton were analyzed for total oil and
grease content by EPA test method 413.1.
' The black colored residue sample collected on June 2 consisted of a solid and
liquid media. Each medium was separated by filtration and treated as two
' samples in Halliburton's laboratory. The liquid medium was analyzed directly
by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES) for
a suite of ten elements. The solids were dried, a subsample digested in a
' nitric/hydrofluoric acid mixture, and then analyzed by ICP-AES.
7.3 Chemical Results -The results of the analysis performed on the grout samples
' by TCLP/TPH-Diesel are reported in Table 7-1, Chemical Analysis-Grout
Mixes and in the Chromalab Report (File No. 0692120 dated June 19, 1992
attached under Appendix Q. The results of the analyses performed by the
' Halliburton laboratory are presented in the Halliburton Project Report C06-
P002-92 Supplement #1 dated June 25, 1992 attached under Appendix C.
' Table 7-1
Chemical Analysis - Grout Mixes
1
Sample ID 'TCLP - Diesel Detection Limit Type of Grout Mix
' (AglL) Gg/L)
MW-3 N.D." 50 50:50 portland cement
' and pozzolan
MW-5 N.D. 50 Equal portions of cement
t and pozzolan with 2% gel
MW-6 N.D. 50 96% portland cement and
4% gel
' N.D. - Not detected at or above detection limit.
' The extractable TPH (diesel, kerosene, motor oil) performed on
representative grout samples collected from within the well casings at a three-
foot depth are below the 50 µg/L (ppb) detection limit; therefore, it appears
that the levels of kerosene and motor oil detected in the mix water supply
(pump truck and on-site water supply)by analysis had been successfully bound
' within the solidified grout matrix.
15
' &Associates
