0
Using the results of both the X-ray diffraction and ICP-AES analysis, the solid
portion of black colored residue sample collected on June 2 consisted mainly
' of hydrated cement with traces of quartz as the crystalline components, 17.2%
Calcium, 6.58 % Aluminum, 1.78% Iron, 0.18 % Barium, 0.012% Chromium,
and less than 0.01% of Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, Selenium, and Silver (refer
- to Table 7-2 and Page 2 of the Halliburton Project Report in Appendix Q.
Also, it is expected that very low percentages of Beryllium, Molybdenum,
Nickel, Vanadium and Zinc would be present (refer to C.A.M. Metal Data
' Sheet furnished by Pozzolanic under Appendix E). However, analyses for
these constituents were not performed. The elements detected in the solid
medium of the black colored residue are consistent with what one would
expect in cements and/or pozzolans (References 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6). The levels
detected for Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Selenium and
' Silver are below the Total Threshold Limit Concentration (TTLC) for
hazardous waste. Although the analyzed constituents were below the TTLC
regulatory criteria, the concentrations of Barium, Chromium and Selenium
' exceeded ten times the Soluble Threshold Limit Concentration (STLC)
regulatory criteria. STLC (wet extract) analyses were not performed by
Halliburton. However, a review of the C.A.M. Metals Data Sheet (data
' furnished by Pozzolanic in Appendix E) shows that the wet extract conducted
on Jim Bridger Fly Ash is below the STLC regulatory criteria for Barium,
Chromium and Selenium. The concentrations detected for analyzed
' constituents reported by Halliburton (Appendix C) and those reported on the
C.A.M. Metals Data Sheet (Appendix E) show comparable results.
' Table 7-2
ICP-AES Analysis of Metals - Black Colored Residue
1EConstituent Solids Solids Filtrate
I Sample (mg/kg) Sample (percent) Sample (mg/L)
Calcium 172,000 17.2 4.73
' Aluminum 65,800 6.58 0.34
Iron 17,800 1.78 <0.01
Arsenic <20 <0.002 <0.1
' Barium 1,800 0.18 0.74
Cadmium 8.5 0.0008 <0.1
Chromium 121.8 0.012 2.93
' Lead <20 <0.002 <0.1
Selenium <20 <0.002 77.7
Silver <20 <0.002 <0.01
' Data from Halliburton Report C06-P002-92, Supplement # 1
16
&Associates
