Site Operation Description
O/LD manufactures galvanized steel doors at 1220 E. Victor in
Lodi , California. Steel panels and structural components are
formed or machined, and assembled into completed doors for
shipment and installation. The steel panels are formed from
galvanized or prepainted steel on coils. The galvanized panels
are cleaned with a caustic solution, phosphatized, and painted
with an acrylic latex paint. A gas-fired steam boiler is used
` to heat the cleaning and phosphatizing solutions for the
galvanized panels. The paint spray booths have a recirculating
water curtain to collect paint overspray. Solvents are used to
clean the paint application equipment.
Paint residues and waste waters from the metal cleaning and
rinsing, phosphatizing, steam boiler, and paint spray operations
have been drained into a storage pond. The storage pond is an
unlined surface impoundment used primarily as a settling basin
and for evaporation of waste water. The pond began receiving
waste waters in early 1960's and solids have been dredged from
the pond several times in the 1970's. Since 1980, the used paint
solvents and spray booth waste waters have been disposed
according to DOHS regulations in Class 1 landfills. The
