WIFerNITIVIRrINC. SACRAMENTO
Soil samples will be collected in decontaminated brass tubes placed`inside a
California split-spoon sampler. The curings will be hydraulically hammered to
approximately two feet below the water table (which is reported to be between three and
ten feet bgs) or to a maximum depth of 12 feet bgs. Soil samples will be"collected
continuously while coring the first borehole, and at five-foot intervals beginning at two
feet bgs for the remaining boreholes. Additional soil -samples will be collected at any
change in lithology identified during the drilling.
The soil samples will be collected with a hydraulically driven corer by the driller.
The site supervisor will ensure that the sampler and the brass tubes are tliorou hl
g Y
cleaned prior to collecting each sample. .Versar's standardized procedures for field
sampling are included in Appendix A and will be strictlyadhered to during the
k
g
investigation.
Soil samples will be analyzed in the field using standard field heads"ace analysis
{ (as described in Appendix A). A maximum of one sample from each coring will be
analyzed by a California-certified laboratory for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons"as diesel
! (TPH-D) and gasoline (TPH-G) using EPA Method 8015M, halogenated volatile organic
compounds (HVOCs) using EPA Method 8010, and for benzene, toluene,.ethylbenzene,
and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020.
3.2 Groundwater Sampling Methods and Procedures
Groundwater grab samples will be collected from each of the corings in which
groundwater is identified. To facilitate the colIection:of these samples,'a two-inch well
screen will be inserted into the boring and the water allowed to stabilize for a minimum
of 30 minutes. A 1.5-inch bailer will then be inserted into the coring and a groundwater
sample collected for laboratory analysis. Each of the grab samples will be analyzed for
TPH-G, TPH-D, HVOCs, and BTEX as previously described.
6
A
11
