5EF WORK NOTICE
s. Department of
° Toxic Substances
Z PG&E Former Manufactured Gas Plant
Control
712 South Sacramento Street
Lodi, California
September 2010
Field Work Scheduled from September 27 — October 1, 2010
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is distributing this notice to inform you that
during the week of September 201h Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will be conducting an
environmental field test at its 712 South Sacramento Street property, which formerly was a manufactured gas
plant (MGP). The purpose of the test will be to study the effectiveness of removing volatile
compounds (chemicals from old MGP operations) from soil at the site. The test involves drawing out vapors
from the soil, treating them with heat from a propane unit, and releasing the treated vapors into the
atmosphere. The testing is being done with the oversight and approval of DTSC,the state regulatory agency
that oversees the investigation and cleanup of contaminated property.
The following summarizes key points of the testing program:
• The test will take place on-site, from Monday, September 20th through Friday, October 1St and the
treatment system will run continuously during this time.
• The treatment unit consists primarily of the vacuum motor and heating unit. Some sound, typical of a
motor and vacuum, will be generated. PG&E will work to reduce sounds associated with the system so that
neighbors are not disturbed.
• The treatment and discharge will be permitted through the San Joaquin Air Quality Management District.
At the completion of the test, PG&E will provide a report to DTSC that summarizes the data collected, and
provides conclusions and recommendations on how to proceed.
For More Information: If you have questions about this project please call:
• Robert Aragon, DTSC Project Manager, at (510) 540-3904 or by email: raragon@dtsc.ca.gov
• Mona Bontty, DTSC Public Participation Supervisor, at (714) 816-1978 or toll free at (866) 495- 5651 (Press
5 for MGP projects and press 1) or by email: mbontty@dtsc.ca.gov. TTY/TDD Speech-to-Speech users may dial
711 for the California Relay Service.
All documents made available to the public by the DTSC can be made available in alternate format (i.e.
Braille, large print, etc.) or in another language as appropriate, in accordance with State and Federal law.
Please contact Mona Bontty noted above for assistance. TTY/TDD Speech-to-Speech users may dial 711
for the California Relay Service.
