March 2, 1999
NOA ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT NUMBER E99042
3. Escalon Fire Department
Inquiries were made with the Escalon Fire Department in an attempt to determine if they have any
records which note any hazardous materials storage, releases or spills, underground storage tanks,
above ground storage tanks, or leaking underground storage tanks on the subject property.
According to officials at the Escalon Fire Department, they have no records of any underground
storage tanks, environmental enforcement actions, or hazardous materials releases at the subject
property.
4. San Joaquin CountyAgricultural Commissioner
The San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's Office was contacted in writing and by
telephone in an effort to obtain information relative to the types of agricultural chemicals that have
been used on the subject property.
The Agricultural Commissioner's Office maintains records back to 1994. The records received from
the Agricultural Commissioner's Office relative to the subject property are attached to this report as
Appendix C. According to the records at the Agricultural Commissioner's Office, the following
agricultural chemicals have been permitted for use on the subject property from 1994 through 1999:
Sevin,Methomyl,MCPA-Dimethyla,2,4-D Amine,Paraquat,Permethrin,Asana,Bromoxynil,and
Dicamba.
In a telephone conversation with Mr. Dan Gesing, Inspector at the Agricultural Commissioner's
Office,he indicated that many times agricultural chemicals are permitted for use on properties but
are not necessarily used by the grower on those properties. Mr. Gesing also indicated that they have
"Pesticide Use Reports"that are submitted by the grower to the Agricultural Commissioner's Office
for the agricultural chemicals that are actually used on the property in question. The Agricultural
Commissioner's Office records include one "Pesticide Use Report" dated July 30, 1998 which
indicates that Lorsban 4E has been the only chemical reported to their office to have been used on
the subject property. Mr. Hector Centeno, the tenant farmer leasing the subject property from Mrs.
Norton, has also indicated that he uses Sevin on the subject property.
The following is a summary of the toxicity and soil half-life of the agricultural chemicals reported
to have been used on the subject property [EXTOXNET,Extension Toxicology Network,Pesticide
Information Notebook, A pesticide information project of the Cooperative Extension Offices of
Cornell University, Michigan State University, Oregon State University and the University of
California at Davis, 1994]:
6 22
