Jule 21, 1999
NOA ENVIRONMENTRL PRVJLA-T .V::LER E99130
VI. INTERVIEWS
An interview was conducted with Mrs. Jane Lewis, one of the family members who is involved in the
Jacklich Family Trust. Mrs. Lewis indicated that she has been involved with the subject property for
a long time. The property has been owned by her family since the 1930s, and has been in the Jacklich
Family Trust since approximately 1994. Mrs. Lewis stated that the property will remain as grazing
land and agricultural land for the foreseeable future. Mrs. Lewis indicated that the subject property
has never been developed. To the best of Mrs. Lewis's knowledge, the subject property was used
in the past as grazing land and for agricultural crops. Mrs. Lewis indicated that she knows of no
underground storage tanks, above ground storage tanks, water wells, septic systems, buried materials,
hazardous materials storage, generation or disposal, or hazardous materials spills on the subject
property during her family's ownership.
An interview was conducted with Mr. Dan Costa, the tenant farmer under a lease agreement with the
Jacklich Family Trust to grow crops on a portion of the subject property. Mr. Costa indicated that
he is currently growing corn on the eastern portion and the western portion of the subject property.
The middle portion of the subject property is currently being used to graze cattle. Mr. Costa has
farmed the western portion of the property for the past six years, and the eastern portion of the
property for the past three years. Mr. Costa has grown corn, pumpkins and gourds on the property
in the past. Mr. Costa indicated that he does use agricultural chemicals on the crops that he grows
on the subject property. Mr. Costa did not remember the names of the chemicals that he uses on the
subject property. However, Mr. Costa did indicate that he registers all agricultural chemical use with
the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's Office. Mr. Costa either applies the chemicals
to the subject property using a tractor and a tank sprayer or he hires an aerial applicator to apply the
chemicals.
Mr. Costa indicated that he does not store any chemicals on the property;however, he does mix some
of the chemicals on the property prior to loading the tank sprayer. Mr. Costa explained that he is
very careful to not spill any of the chemicals during mixing.
12
