ACC Environmental Consultants, Inc. Project: 415 North Main St., Manteca, California
The Phase H Site Investigation has been divided into the following tasks:
TASK 1 DEVELOP WORK PLAN AND SITE SAFETY PLAN
The site safety plan, included with this work plan, will be on-site during all field
activities. Underground locating equipment will be employed to identify underground
utilities. Underground Service Alert will also be notified prior to drilling. A minimum of
Level D safety equipment is required for all field activities.
TASK 2 DRILL SHALLOW EXPLORATORY SOIL BORINGS
ACC will use Artesian Environmental, a state licensed drilling company, to drill the soil
borings. The drilling will be performed using a rotohammer with either 2-inch diameter
flight augers or 1-inch diameter soil probes. Both methods use zero contamination soil
samplers with sample liners.
Depending on geologic conditions, underground obstacles and accessibility, between two
and four soil borings will be drilled along the four borders of the property to a maximum
depth of about 15 ft (Figure 2).
The proposed soil borings will be drilled into native soils. Soil samples will be collected
at about 5, 10 and 15 ft below ground surface for lithologic and hydrologic
characterization, and for possible chemical analysis. All borings will be logged by a
geologist under the direction and supervision of a state-registered geologist using the
Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). The soil samples will be collected in pre-
cleaned, soil liners. The soil samples will be wrapped with teflon tape and capped with
plastic caps.
The soil samples will be screened with a photoionization detector(PID) to qualitatively
evaluate the concentration of volatile hydrocarbons that may be present, and aid in
selecting the soil samples to be analyzed. The standard operating procedures are included
in Appendix A.
Groundwater is estimated to occur between 15 and 25 ft below ground surface. The 15.0
foot sample will be collected in the groundwater-soil interface, if groundwater is present
at that depth. "Grab" groundwater samples will be collected from the soil borings using
either a stainless steel retractable water probe with teflon tubing or stainless steel bailer.
The soil and groundwater samples will then be placed in plastic zip-lock bags and stored
in a cooler with crushed ice. Frequent checking of the thermometer inside the cooler will
insure the samples will be kept at 4 degrees Celsius.
The samples will be transported under chain-of-custody procedures to Chromalab, Inc. of
San Ramon, California, a state-certified laboratory for analysis.
All borings will be grouted with a neat cement slurry.
