EarthTech Ms. Violeta Mislang
A iym International Ltd,Company September 30, 2005
Page 3 of 4
All soil gas samples will be delivered to a certified laboratory for analysis by EPA Method TO-15
(open scan) for VOCs plus naphthalene. A duplicate sample will also be collected for quality
assurance and quality control (QA/QC). Soil gas sampling and analyses are summarized in
Table 1.
Earth Tech proposes to use the following state-certified laboratory to conduct the proposed soil
gas analyses by EPA Method TO-15:
• Air Toxics Ltd. located at 180 Blue Ravine Road, Ste. B in Folsom, California (Telephone
number: 916-985-1000).
The reporting limits (RL) for VOCs and naphthalene by EPA Method TO-15 were provided by Air
Toxics Ltd and are presented in Attachment 2.
Upon completion of the soil gas sampling, the boring will be further advanced in order to collect
groundwater samples as described below.
Grab Groundwater Sampling for Naphthalene and Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate
Upon the completion of soil vapor sampling, each boring will be further advanced by the DPT drill
rig to a depth of approximately 3 feet below groundwater (approximately 20 feet bgs). A slotted
PVC casing with filter socks will be inserted into the boring, and grab groundwater samples will
be collected from all the four borings using a peristaltic sampling pump. Because the borings will
be advanced for the purpose of collecting groundwater samples and the soil lithology is already
well known from the January 2005 investigation activities, soil screening with a photoionization
detector and lithological logging will not be conducted during the advancement of the borings to
the groundwater.
For QA/QC purposes, a duplicate groundwater sample will be collected, and triple volumes of
one sample will be collected and supplied to the laboratory for matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate
(MS/MSD) analysis. Additionally, an equipment blank will be collected from the new tubing used
for the peristaltic pump. The equipment blank will be collected using Type II Reagent-Grade
water.
All the groundwater samples will be delivered to a certified laboratory in an iced cooler for
naphthalene and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate analyses using EPA Method 8270C. Groundwater
sampling and analyses are summarized in Table 1. Earth Tech proposes to use the following
state-certified laboratory to conduct the proposed groundwater analyses:
• Entech Analytical Labs, Inc. located at 3334 Victor Court in Santa Clara, California
(Telephone number: 408-588-0200).
The method detection limits (MDLs) and RLs for the planned groundwater analyses by 8270C
were provided by Entech as follows:
• Naphthalene: MDL = 3 pg/L, RL = 10 pg/L, and
• Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate: MDL = 2 pg/L, RL = 10 pg/L.
