California Environmental Protection Agency
Department of Toxic Substances Control
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Surface and Ground Water (Workbook; page 17)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Descriotion of Environmental Setting:
The project site is located outside the 100-year floodplain according to Federal Emergency
Management Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Floodplain maps indicate that the 100-year flood is
contained within the Stockton Deep Water Channel. The project site is adjacent to the upper
terminus of the Stockton Channel. The Stockton Channel is a tributary of the San Joaquin River, the
Delta and San Francisco Bay and has a reliable depth of about ten feet.
Groundwater is typically encountered at 15 to 25 feet below ground surface, with specific
measurements between 12 to 16 feet in 1998. Groundwater is not used for domestic purposes.
Groundwater recharging the Site originates in the Stockton Ship Channel, which is impacted by
contaminants from upstream urban sources (street and agricultural runoff). The chemical make up of
the general groundwater in the Stockton downtown area and the Ship Channel are known to be of
poor quality as cited by.a California Department of Water Resources report dated as early as 1967.
Ref: Insite Environmental: Administrative Draft, Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report
for the Mudville 9 Ballpark, Downtown Stockton, November 8, 1999.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc., Quarterly Reports - November 1998, February 1999,
Former Chase Chevrolet *(Madison) *(Van Buren) Facility, 22 March 1999 *(separate reports
for each facility)
Wallace-Kuhl & Associates, Inc., Quarterly Status Report, 404 West Fremont Street, February
16, 1999
Analysis of Potential Impacts:
Removing the contaminated soils at the Site will have a beneficial effect on the environment by
reducing and eliminating a potential threat to groundwater.
Ref: Insite Environmental: Administrative Draft, Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report
for the Mudville 9 Ballpark, Downtown Stockton, November 8, 1999.
Findings:
Potentially
Potentially Significant Less Than
Significant Unless Significant No
Impact Mitigated Impact Impact
X
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8
