Memo to Antonia Vorster -2 - 3 July 1987 <br /> 2 . Install monitoring wells , based on the soil gas results , to define the <br /> horizontal and vertical extent of ground water contamination . Ideally, <br /> Crystal should define the ground water plume by establishing " clean " <br /> wells around and below the contamination . <br /> 3 . Design and install a vapor extraction system to control the area. of <br /> soil contamination defined by soil gas survey results . Design of this <br /> system should utilize pilot well ( s ) to determine transmissivity and <br /> concentration data which can then be used to estimate the zone of <br /> influence and level of air emissions , respectively . <br /> 4 . Design and install a ground water extraction system to completely <br /> control and /or remove the defined plume . As part of the system <br /> design , aquifer transmi ssi vi ties and storage coefficients , as well as <br /> probable flows and concentrations , must be estimated . <br /> The above is an acceptable investigation and mitigation scenario based on <br /> Crystal ' s 22 April proposal . However , any proposal which meets the stated <br /> primary objectives at the site would be acceptable . Crystal should submit a <br /> revised work plan , based on the above , including a time schedule and specific <br /> task descriptions for the next phase of work . <br /> GAR : jj <br />
