Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study Irerracon
Buddhist Temple Proposed Dormitory ■ Stockton, California
July 11, 2019 ■Terracon Project No. NA177056
systems (associated with the residence and mobile home) and
groundwater well. The proposed development included the conversion
of an existing 1,950 SF garage and 1,280 SF workshop as an assembly
hall religious facility and removal of the mobile home. No septic permits
were found for the site. Groundwater was not encountered in borings
advanced to 8.5 feet below grade surface (bgs). Nitrate was identified
at 161 milligrams per liter (mg/L) in a groundwater sample collected
from the onsite well above the Environmental Protection Agency
maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 45 mg/L for nitrate. DBCP was
.7not identified in the groundwater sample. A shallow (3.33 feet bgs) and
— deep (8.5 feet bgs) percolation test resulted in percolation rate of 4.54
minutes per inch in both borings. The deep percolation of rain was
estimated at 5.76 inches. Nitrate loading was calculated for up to seven
Buddhist Monk residents and with average daily temple attendance
between 10 to 25 people per day with a maximum attendance of 80
people per day. A residential use rate of 70 gallons per resident acid 3_
gallons per visitor for a total average daily flow of 730 gallons per day.
Nitrate loading concentrations for the religious facility was calculated at
80 mg/L-N and the residential use was calculated at 40 mg/L-N. A
weighted average of 56.5 mg/L-N was used for the waste water flow
concentration with a denitrification factor of 30%. The result of the
nitrate loading balance was 10.8 mg/L-N. A double septic tank and
modified filter bed were recommended for the septic system.
■ Nitrate Loading Study/Soil Suitability Study-Addendum #1 dated December 7, 2012,
NOA Project No.LGS12007
Based on a review of the addendum letter, an additional 40 people
increased commercial effluent by 120 gallons per day for a total of 850
gallons per day. The weighted average of nitrate concentration was
increased to 59.82 mgL-N. The nitrate loading was increased by 1.8
mg/L-N for a total of 12.6 mg/L-N above the MCL of 10 mg/L-N.
1.1.1 Site Description
The site is located on an approximate+;4.60.-acretract of land located at 11241, 11253, and
11265 N. Thornton Road, Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, Assessor Parcel Number
(APN) 055-200-03. The San Joaquin County District Viewer identified the site address as 11265
N. Thornton Road. The western portion of the site is improved with an approximately 3,911
square foot (SF) assembly hall with single restroom, a 1,269 SF five bedroom single bathroom
residence, 400 SF detached men and woman restroom, 7,000 SF stormwater retention basin, two
septic systems, utilities, paved parking and drive areas, and limited landscaping. The eastern
portion of the parcel is vacant land used for overflow parking during special events.
Responsive ■ Resourceful ■Reliable 4
