Glossary <br /> OF <br /> REFERENCE TERMS <br /> Make up tank A small tank that is used to convert a dry product into a solution <br /> at a predetermined concentration. <br /> Monometers A gauge used to determine pressure drop through tube <br /> bundles. <br /> Non-required testing Laboratory testing of wastewater to ensure proper plant <br /> operation and compliance that is not required by regulatory <br /> authority. <br /> Oil & Grease Water-insoluable organic compounds of food and animal origins <br /> or industrial wastes that can be removed by skimming. <br /> Permit Required A vessel or space specified by OSHA requiring a procedure for <br /> Confined Space entry. <br /> Parapet A low wall or railing as found on the edge of a roof or platform. <br /> pH A measure of the degree of acidity or alkalinity of a solution in <br /> terms of negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration. <br /> pH meter an instrument used to measure the hydrogen ion concentration <br /> of a solution. <br /> Pressure indicators An instrument used to determine the static head pressure or the <br /> pressure of a fluid in a piping network. <br /> Pretreatment regulation Under the Clean Water Act, the required alteration and/or <br /> reduction of certain water pollutants in a waste stream before <br /> the water is discharged into the POTW. The ppurpose of this <br /> requirement is to prevent discharges that will reduce the <br /> efficiency of the POTW. <br /> Primary operator The wastewater treatment plant operator whose main job <br /> function is the operation of the wastewater treatment plant. <br /> APPENDIX PAGE 16 <br />
