Heat stress due to the possibility of working in high temperatures during the project is <br /> possible. When the temperature increases above 85 degrees, employees should be aware of <br /> the physiological changes in the body that can result in various heat illnesses such as heat <br /> cramps, heat exhaustion,heat stroke, and skin rashes. <br /> L1. Heat Cramps: Painful spasms of the muscles. <br /> 2. Heat Exhaustion: Perspiration and redness of the skin are indicators of heat' <br /> exhaustion. Fatigue, nausea, and headache can lead to unconsciousness. <br /> 3. Heat Stroke: Mental confusion or loss of'Lonsciousness. There may not be . <br /> Perspiration present. Shock can result. Heat stroke can lead to convulsions and <br /> coma if left untreated. <br /> 4. Skin Rash: A Body rash can result from overexposure to heat. <br /> B. The employee should consume ample amounts of water or electrolytic replacement <br /> drink to avoid dehydration, and take breaks in a cool area. Water or drinks will be <br /> available to employees'at all times. <br /> C. The Site Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that employees take adequate <br /> breaks to prevent symptoms of heat stress.An employee must stop work if any of the <br /> following symptoms of heat stress are present: <br /> 1. Sweating stops and skin becomes dry; <br /> 2. Periods of inexplicable irritability; <br /> 3. Malaise (weakness and fatigue); { <br /> 4. Flu-like symptoms; <br /> 5. Sudden and sever fatigue, nausea, dizziness, light headedness, or fainting; j <br /> 6. Sustained heartbeats over .160 beats per minute (for people under 35 years); and i <br /> 7. Sustained heartbeats over 140 beats per minute (for people over 35 years). <br /> D.
