(URSGWC) is submitting this letter on behalf of the Real Estate
Services Division(RESD)for the soil and groundwater investigation at the California Highway Patrol facility
located at 385 West Grantline Road in Tracy,California(Site). The purpose of the letter into document the
revisions to the workplan submitted by URSGWC on behalf of RESD on December 7,2000. The revisions
are in response to your letter dated January 25,2001. The following shows the portionof your comments
in the January 25, 2001 letter(in bold text)and URSGWC's'response to fulfill the request.
URS has proposed installation of two additional monitoring wells north and northeast of MW1 to
investigate the.lateral extent of the contamination. PHSIEHD requires that the vertical extent ;
of the contamination be investigated as well. At least one boring/monitoring well must be installed
downgradient of the former UST location and the investigation must continue below the 25 feet
depth of confirmed sol contamination. A discretely screened well to define the vertical extent of M
the contamination should be installed.
URSGWC is proposing the installation of one boring to 30 feet below ground surface(bgs). The location
of the boring is shown on the attached Figure 1. The boring will be drilled with 8-inch diameter hollow
stem augers. During drilling, soil samples will be collected every five feet beginning at five feet bgs and
continuing to 30 feet bgs. Two soil samples will be submitted to Curtis&Tompkins,Limited(Curtis&
Tompkins), a California State Certified Laboratory, for analysis of TPH-G by EPA method 8015
modified;and BT'EX,MTBE,tert-butyl alcohol(TBA),.di-isopropyl ether(D1PE),ethyl tert-butyl ether
(ETB), and tert-amyl methyl ether(TAME) by EPA method 8260
5
R
URS Corporation
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2200
Fax: 916.679.2900llsacdata2lWprocess114214102_Tracy1L031601.wpd
