SECTION 33 — EXISTING FACILITIES <br /> ' The Contractor's attention is directed to the existence of certain underground facilities <br /> that may require special precautions be taken by the Contractor to protect the health, <br /> safety and welfare of workers and of the public <br /> ' The work shall consist of removing all objectionable material within the limits of work <br /> shown on the Project Plans and as directed by the Engineer The contractor shall <br /> remove all pavement, base materials, pipe materials, concrete structures and any other <br /> facilities as shown on the Project Plans or as directed by the Engineer which will not be <br /> incorporated in the final project <br /> The known existing utilities and pipelines except building connections and landscape <br /> irrigation are shown on the Drawings in their approximate location The Contractor shall <br /> exercise care in avoiding damage to all utilities as the Contractor will be held <br /> responsible for their repair if damaged There is no guarantee that all utilities or <br /> obstructions are shown, or that locations indicated are accurate Utilities include piping, <br /> conduits, wire, cable, poles, ducts, manholes, pull boxes and the like, located at the <br /> project site and adjoining said site and along the pipeline right-of-way <br /> I <br /> Contact all affected utility owners and request them to locate their respective utilities <br /> ' prior to the start of"potholing" procedures The utility owner shall be given 7 days <br /> written notice prior to commencing potholing If a utility owner is not equipped to locate <br /> its utility, the Contractor shall locate it <br /> Clearlymark the location of all affected utility underground es conduits and other <br /> Y 9 PP <br /> utilities on the pavement or with suitable markers if not on pavement In addition to the <br /> ' location of metallic pipes and conduits, non-metallic pipe ducts and conduits shall also <br /> be similarly located using surface indicators and shall then be similarly marked <br /> ' After the utility survey is completed, commence "potholing" to determine the actual <br /> location of all utilities where crossing, interferences, or connections to the new pipelines <br /> are shown on the Drawings, marked by the utility companies, or indicated by surface <br /> ' signs Prior to the preparation of piping shop drawings, or the excavating for any new <br /> pipelines or structures, the Contractor shall locate and uncover these existing utilities to <br /> a point one foot below the utility Any variation in the actual elevations and the indicated <br /> elevations shall be brought to the Engineer's attention <br /> Excavations around underground electrical ducts and conduits shall be performed using <br /> extreme caution to prevent injury to workmen or damage to electrical ducts or conduits <br /> Similar precautions shall be exercised around gas lines, telephone and television <br /> cables <br /> ' Backfill after completing potholing In existing streets pave with 1 inch of cutback <br /> If interferences occur at locations other than shown on the Drawings, the Contractor <br /> shall notify the Engineer and a method for correcting said interferences shall be supplied <br /> by the Engineer Payment for interferences that are now shown on the plans, nor for <br /> which there are surface indications, shall be in accordance with the provisions of the <br /> August 2001 Division 11 -14 Ball Park & Park& Ride Wells Ph 1 <br />
