204 DRILLING FLUIDS <br /> A The Contractor shall retain an experienced, qualified mud engineer to establish a <br /> drilling fluid control program prior to commencement of any drilling operations and <br /> the program shall be submitted to the City <br /> B Use only potable water in drilling fluids, whether employed alone or in combination <br /> with drilling additives Drilling fluid additives will be allowed only under extreme <br /> circumstances The Contractor shall submit a list to the Engineer showing all <br /> drilling fluid additives that will be used, or are anticipated to be used during the <br /> drilling operations prior to commencement of the drilling Use only commercial <br /> chemical products in common usage in the project area for water well drilling in the <br /> makeup of any drilling fluid Biodegradable muds will not be allowed Do not <br /> perform drilling with a mixture of water and unprocessed mud or other materials <br /> The drilling fluid shall possess such characteristics as are required to adequately <br /> maintain the walls of the hole to prevent caving of the walls as drilling progresses <br /> and to permit recovery of representative samples of cuttings Drilling fluid <br /> recirculated to the drill pipe or borehole shall not contain in excess of 2% sand <br /> C Maintain controlled drilling fluid characteristics during the entire operation of well <br /> construction The Contractor shall have at the job site the equipment necessary to <br /> measure drilling fluid weight, marsh funnel viscosity, and sand content <br /> The Contractor shall maintain a drilling fluid with the average properties given <br /> below <br /> a) Weight 8 3 - 8 9 lb/gal <br /> b) Marsh Funnel Viscosity 28 - 35 sec/qt <br /> c) Sand Content less than 2% by volume <br /> D Maintain a record showing any variation in the addition and amount of chemical <br /> products or water required during drilling Show the depths at which such changes <br /> are required in the daily reports <br /> 205 CALIPER <br /> The caliper used to perform the survey shall have a minimum of three arms and shall be <br /> capable of indicating a hole diameter to 48 inches <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3 01 PRODUCTION WELL DRILLING <br /> Ream the 18-inch test holes to a final bore hole diameter of 32-inches to a depth <br /> prescribed by the Citys' Representative <br /> 3 02 CALIPER SURVEY <br /> A Upon completion of the drilling operations and a maximum of 2 hours prior to <br /> • casing installation commencement, run a caliper survey by a firm retained by the <br /> Contractor and approved by the Engineer <br /> August 2001 Division 111 -20 Ball Park& Park & Ride Wells Ph 1 <br />
