t
SITE ASSESSMENT REPORT
CHEAPER ' #37
1RACY, CALIFORNIA
1. 0 INTRODUCTION
Pacific Rim Environmental submitted a Remediation Work Pian to the San Joaquin
Environmental Health Department (SJEHD) . The SJEHD has approved the Remediation
Plan, but has requested supplementary information on plume characterization and
sampling characterization. This Site Investigation Report will provide that
information.
! 2. 0 FACILITY DESCRIPTION
I
Cheaper' #37 is located at 15 East Grant Line Road in the Tracy area of the
County of San Joaquin. The site is a gasoline service station with two 10, 000
gallon underground gasoline storage tanks.
3. 0 PROJECT HISTORY
On March 3, 1988, two underground gasoline storage tanks were removed under the
supervision of the SJCEHD. Boil contamination was observed under the tanks.
Four monitoring wells were constructed in April and May of 1988 and water samples
found petroleum contamination. A Site Investigation Report was prepared and
submitted by Parker Environmental on April 20, 1993, and a Groundwater Monitoring
Report was submitted on December 16, 1993.
On June 13, 1994, a Remediation Work Plan was submitted by Pacific Rim
Environmental. On July 11, 1994, PC Toxic was telephoned the SJCEHD on the
status of the report. PC Toxic was informed that the lateral and vertical extent
of the contamination needed to be defined and a sampling plan for confirmation
sampling needed to be submitted.
to. 1B FINDINGS
5. 1 Geology
r
Previous boring logs reported layers of silty and sandy clays, some clayey sands,
and fine to medium grained sands in the first ten feet of soils. Information
provided by f1JCEHD has suggested that the soils contained more clay than sand.
! 5. 2 Hydrogeology
The groundwater is at an estimated depth of 7 feet below grade. The direction
of the groundwater gradient varies. The direction has changed from northeast
to north to southeast during the last several years. Parker Environmental feels
that the water table will flatten out and return to a northwest direction.
5. 3 Analytical Results
• Seven soils boring and four monitoring wells were constructed around the site
where the two underground tanks were removed. Analytical results found that soil
! 1
