I
At the time of our reconnaissance on May 20, 1989, no evidence of contamination,
i.e., discolored soil, distinct areas barren of vegetation, storage containers, etc. was visible
on the agricultural or stockpiled fill areas of the site.
In the dairy area, the barren ground and dead vegetation appeared to be the result
of lack of water or cultivation. The farm buildings in this area cor3tained numerous liquid
containers, some empty and some with fluids in them: 4 empty 5 gallon buckets for
lubrication ail; 2 5-gallon gas cans, one empty, one 1/2 full, a 1-gallon shellac can (full),
a 1-gallon, reagent bottled marked "Turco slash", Inhibited Acid Detergent .(for cleaning
pasteurizing equipment) (3 Inches of sludge on .the bottom). Also present were storage
batteries, broken machinery, auto parts and furniture debris. The concrete floors of the
farm buildings were unstained except for the floor of a work shed which appears to be
oil stained.
B. Stwcly Area LaodQ
Most of the land In the study area Is presently used for agriculture with related
residential;and farm structures. Commercial areas are present on the south'side of Byron
Road and; northeast part of the study area.
Facllltles adjacent to or nearby the site with a potential for contaminant releases
Include a sulfur dioxide storage yard, Southern pacific Railroad Tracks, Interstate 205 and
I two gasoline pumps at 13400 Byrom Road. These facilities are located as shown o
 n
Figure i and discussed In the subsequent sections.
I
R:604.09N 3 -
. a'1rf89
I
