Dividend Development Corporation
Workplan to Determine Extent of Soil Contamination May Z3, 1991
Page 4
SAMPLE PROCEDURES:
i
Toxic Technology, Inc. proposes that the five foot (51 ) continuous
core method be employed to collect samples. ' This method retrieves
a five foot (51.) soil sections. From this core, a sample would be
extruded and immediately placed in a glass jar with a teflon' - lined
lid. This procedure provides a' much more comprehensive look at the
lithology than the standard split-spoon techniques. There is a
risk of losing a small 1fraction of volatiles, however the extra
date provided by obtaining a complete five foot (5 ' ) core is, in
TTI 's opinion, of greater significance. This sampling procedure
has been utilized for site investigations by TTI -in various
counties and cities throughout California.
If sampling from the five foot (51 ) core sections is not approved,
TTI will collect samples via an eighteen-inch (1811) split spoon
sampler with six-inch (611) brass liners. The liners would be
sealed with foil and covered with tight fitting plastic caps. The j
sample is then sealed by taping the plastic cap, by placing the
brass tube in a plastic ziplock bag, or both. Which ever method is II
utilized, samples will be collected at a minimum of five foot (5 ' )
intervals. All sample equipment will be
decontaminated between ,
sampling instances by steam cleaning the equipment or by washing
the equipment with the three bucket technique, which is five (5)
gallons of water mixed with a trisodium phosphate soap (TSP) , then
rinsing the equipment in a second bucket, and then again rinsing
the equipment in a distilled water rinse. The equipment is then
dried and staged in a clean area for the next sampling event. i
Toxic Technology, Inc.
