August 25, 1987 AGS 87053-1
Reynolds and Brown, Tracy, California
Tank T1 was found to have no throughgoing holes or unusual
corrosion. Tank T2 was found to have a hole approximately 0.75
inches in diameter at the base of the tank near the east end.
This location is directly below the fill port, and may be due to
corrosion or wear associated with sticking the tank. Tank T2
showed some evidence of corrosion near the base of the tank,
apparently associated with contact with ground.
Native soil was removed from the tank cavity with a backhoe for
sampling. Soil samples were collected from an approximate depth
of 14 feet, or 2 feet below the base of the tanks, and near the
east and west ends of each of the tanks. Additional samples were
collected from the side walls of the tank cavity, but were not
analyzed. The native soil consists of a light brown medium- to
` fine-grained sand. No evidence of soil contamination was noted
in the samples or elsewhere in the excavation.
` The samples were collected from the backhoe bucket immediately
atter the soil was brought to the surface by driving a
laboratory-cleaned brass sample sleeve into the soil. The sleeve
was sealed with aluminum foil, plastic caps and airtight tape,
and then labeled and placed in iced storage. A Chain-of-Custody
3
A,o,%o' GeoSystems
