PHS/EHD has prepared the following comments for your
consideration
The closure report included a brief site history indicating that the former underground storage
tanks had been removed in 1978. Subsequently, numerous phases of investigation have
ensued; including the drilling of seven soil borings, three of which were converted into
monitoring wells. The extent of soil contamination is very Iimited. However, Groundwater
Technology failed to estimate the volume and mass of residual soil contamination, which is
necessary to recommend the site for closure. Groundwater contamination has not been
confirmed after seven periodic sampling events.
Please submit in addendum an estimate of the residual soil contamination and a corrected
Table 2 summarizing all groundwater analytical results including the August 1995 sampling
event, all trip blanks, and bailer blanks. The addendum should also include a work plan to
destroy the monitoring wells.
PHS/EHD looks forward to certification of this site for closure. If you have any questions,
please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
wu6>—
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
