October 26, 2006
Mr. Jeffrey Wong, Senior REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
Environmental Health Department San Joaquin Court
304 East Weber Avenue,Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
Re: Continental Grain Co. (ContiGroup)
9504 South Harlan Road
French Camp, CA 95231
Soil Boring Installation Work Plan
Dear Mr. Wong:
We are submitting this brief letter Work Plan for the installation of one soil boring at the above
referenced property. This workplan provides details of the soil boring installation activities for your
review prior to procuring the permit.
SITE OVERVIEW
The French Camp Elevator is an active grain storage and transfer facility located approximately
five miles south of Stockton, California in San Joaquin County (See Figure 1). The site
encompasses roughly nine acres and includes improvements such as grain elevators, grain
storage bins, seed storage, storage buildings, truck scales, and an office.
In 2005, an interim action/pilot scale study of methods to enhance the zone of influence during
injection and to accelerate abiotic dehalogenation was implemented at the French Camp site.
The pilot study consisted of two actions: hydraulic fracturing of the intermediate zone and
injection of granular zero-valent iron (GZVI) into the intermediate aquifer.
A groundwater model is being developed for the site in order to investigate the feasibility of
extracting water from the northern portion of the site and re-injecting it in the area that GZVI
was injected. Information regarding the soil properties at the site is needed in order to finalize the
groundwater model and therefore it is proposed to install one soil boring and collect Shelby tubes
from several depth intervals.
SOIL BORING INSTALLATION INFORMATION
A California-licensed drilling company, RSI Drilling, Inc., will advance one nominal 8'/4-inch
diameter borehole to approximately 90 feet below ground surface using a hollow stem auger drill
rig. Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE), an environmental consulting firm out of Stockton,
