ri
S E C O R
76(Former BP)Service Station No.11193
SJCEHD
August 30,2007
Page 2
Permitting. Permits for the installation of the groundwater monitoring wells will
be obtained from SJCEHD prior to beginning work. Atlantic Richfield Company(a .
BP affiliated company) will obtain access agreements with the owners of the
for the installation of wells MW-14 and MW-15.
nearby properties
Borehole Clearance Activities. Prior to initiating field activities, SECOR will Gr`t7
mark the boring locations, contact Underground Service Alert (USA) at least 48
hours prior to the initiation of field work, and will contract a private utility locator to
determine whether the proposed boring locations are clear of potential subsurface I
obstructions. After clearance is verified by USA and the utility locator, the borings
will be air-knifed to a depth of approximately five feet bgs to further minimize the
risk of encountering subsurface structures that are not anticipated at the k
locations. I
l
Soil Sampling and Analysis. Soil borings for wells MW-14 and MW-15 ill b i
• - we r
advanced at the locations shown on Figure 1 using hollow stem auger drilling
equipment. During drilling activities, soil samples will be collected at five-foot
intervals using a California-modified Split Spoon sampler for the purpose of
logging stratigraphy, moisture content, odor, and other physical characteristics.
The extracted soil samples for stratigraphic interpretation will be analyzed in the
i
field for the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with a photo- }
ionization detector(PID).
The soil boring for well MW-13 will be advanced on-site at the location illustrated
on Figure 1, using hollow stem auger drilling equipment to the depth of the
previously identified sand/silt layer in boring CPT-2(approximately 96 feet to 108 X60 0 r lfi
feet bgs). The stratigraphy will not be logged from the surface to 100 feet bgs;
however, the soil samples extracted by a California-modified Split Spoon sampler
will be continuously logged from approximately 100 feet bgs to the total depth
explored. The stratigraphy, moisture content, odor, other physical characteristics,
and PED readings will be recorded on the boring log. The total depth explored will
be contingent upon the depth of the next water-bearing zone consisting of coarse-
grained soil encountered within the boring. SECOR anticipates that the total depth
of the boring will be between approximately 100 feet and 110 feet bgs. t
f
• Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation. The off-site boreholes will be
completed as groundwater monitoring wells at an approximate depth of 30 feet
bgs, depending on the depth to groundwater and the stratigraphy encountered at
each location. A two-inch diameter well will be installed within each borehole, and
will be constructed with Schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride(PVC)casing with 20 feet
of 0.010-inch slotted screen extending from approximately 10 feet to 30 feet bgs. -
E
I:1BP-ARC0105 BP-COP Sites1111931Work Plans111193 Vertical Delineation WP.doc
