• 4.0 REPORTING
4.3 10- and 15-Year Review
The 10-year review will include evaluating 10 years of groundwater data and two rounds of
soil sampling data (plus baseline measurements). The criteria for success of phytoreme-
diation at 10 years are:
' • Stabilized and possibly decreased concentrations of nitrogen in groundwater
• An indication that natural processes continue to affect nitrogen concentrations in soil
A report will be prepared to summarize findings and recommendations. If criteria for suc-
cess are not met, proposed contingencies will be presented in the report.
The 15-year review will include evaluating 15 years of groundwater data and three rounds
of soil sampling data (plus baseline measurements). The criteria for success of phyto-
remediation at 15 years are:
• Decreased concentrations of nitrogen in groundwater
• An indication that natural processes continue to affect and possibly decrease
concentrations of nitrogen in soil
As in the 10-year review,a report will summarize findings, recommendations, and contin-
gencies (if needed).
4.4 Contingencies
Criteria for success for each reporting interval are given in the preceding section. In the
event that these criteria are not met, contingencies will be considered to upgrade or revise
the remedial action.Contingencies include the following actions:
• Consider possible upgrades to the existing system(could include tree density, new
plantings,etc.).
• Consider planting grasses between trees.
1 • Consider adding additional areas for phytoremediation.
• Re-evaluate remedial options presented in the Feasibility Study.
• Perform pilot-scale or field-scale studies of in-situ technologies.
• Consider innovative technologies that emerge in the next 3 to 15 years.
Consensus on a contingency approach would be developed between the parties and the
RWQCB and a plan for implementation would be prepared.
RDDI003670317.DOC(CAH710.DOC) 16
