(Stratus)for the above referenced site. The information and
proposals in these documents were discussed with Stratus on December 3, 2003.
The analytical results of the third quarter 2003 groundwater samples-showed lower
MTBE contaminant levels than the previous quarterly groundwater sample results. This
information and the mass of MTBE calculated and reported in the Site Conceptual Model
does not warrant the amount of investigative and remedial work proposed in the work
plan at this time so the work plan is not approved. The vertical extent of the
contamination and the site lithology require more specific investigation. A phased
approach of investigation and evaluation of remedial alternatives should be provided.
EHD discussed with Stratus that a continuous:core investigation such as CPT should be
performed at the site to provide continuous lithology information and investigate the
vertical extent of the contamination and that this investigation should continue below 50
feet since the second zone of contamination at Sharpes Army Distribution site (located
between Roth and Lathrop Roads) has been identified to be between 50 and 70 feet
below surface grade. Stratus agreed to prepare a new work plan for this investigation.
The work plan should be submitted to EHD by December 29,2003.
If you have any questions contact me at(209)468.3449.
Donna Herar*, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising RENS
Unit IV/LOP
G: CVRWQCB—Jim Barton
Stratus—Steven Carter
