San Joaquin County Motor Pool Facility March 6, 2001
Supplemental Contamination Assessment Workplan
The geologist will use a Photoionization Detector (PID) to screen the soil samples in the
field for the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and to select soil samples for
laboratory analyses. Samples retained for laboratory analysis will be collected in 1'/2-inch
diameter by 6-inch long steel sleeves capped with Teflon lined polyethylene caps, properly
labeled and immediately delivered to the on-Site mobile laboratory under chain-of-custody
protocol.
Groundwater samples will be collected from each boring using a new disposable
polyethylene bailer which will be lowered inside the hollow-stem auger string to static
groundwater. Prior to sample collection, the depth to groundwater will be measured using
j a water level indicator (Solinst or equivalent). To allow collection of enough sample to fill
all sample containers at the same time, approximately two feet of water column will be
allowed to-collept insthe bottom of the hollow-stern"a er string, Thi } rggt re ;—
lifting the hollow-kstem` auger string to allow groundwater Wenter and' col ect inside the
auger string.
T I collecte arriple will be transferred ftorr-t}ie bailer t ppfopriate laboratory)s plied
s mplej con al er using bottom empt ing device wh ch Iminimizes the loss 4f olotlle
c n it is - a pies'collected I VO analyses imill have t eir respective con inlers
fil ed c pletely ith a convex meni use las to eli in, to any rapped air or heads ate.
p P
T e of ected groundwater samples will properly Labeled an immediately delivered .to
t e on+ a rno4e laboratory under chain f- ustody protocol_
The drilling Old Oaii piing equip rr ent will egontaminated betwe n leah sampling intery I
and between borinh locations to minimi e jthe possibility ofr ckossticontamination. The soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D) and TPH-G using EPA Method No.
M8015 and for BTEX, MTBE, tert-Butanol (TBA), Di-Isopropyl Ether (DIPE), Ethyl-tert-
Butyl Ether (ETBE), and tert-Amyl Methyl Ether (TAME) using EPA Method No. 8260B.
Task 4: Report Preparation
Upon completion of the field work a report will be prepared by TEM. The report will
summarize field activities and will include soil boring logs, site maps showing the boring
locations, figures illustrating the vertical and lateral extent of soil and groundwater
impacted by fuel hydrocarbons, tables summarizing soil and ground-water analytical data,
conclusions based on generated data, recommendations for further assessment work, if
necessary.
i
N
