SECTION 3
SUMMARY OF CONSTRUCTION WORK
SCOPE OF WORK
This work plan has been designed to address the work associated with the excavation of the soils to
accommodate the foundation caissons as well as other trenching or digging which may go through
or excavate impacted groundwater or soils This plan focuses on the anticipated actions by the
contractor when soils and groundwater impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons are encountered
USA ALERT
The subcontractor of F&H Construction has reportedly notified USA Alert
ESTABLISHMENT OF WORK ZONE
A work zone shall be established around the entire site The entire site should be enclosed by a
temporary construction fence The general public will be restricted from entering the site by the
fence and/or by requesting people not directly involved in the work to stay out of the immediate
work area
EXCAVATION AND/OR AUGER DRILLING
The site will be field marked by F&H Construction or its subcontractors The contractor has
scheduled the installation of approximately 10 caissons per day
SOIL SCREENING
During the drilling of th uger piles, the bit chaser or helper and the industrial hygiene
representative will visually he excavated soils for the presence of stains or odors As previously dt5 g
stated in this plan, impacted soils are not expected until a depth of approxmiately25 feet is reached y
Any odors or discoloration will trigger further testing as necessary by the industrial-hygienist
Further testing will be performed by an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) or specific gasoline -
constituent testing using Drager tubes
Soils which appear to be impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons due to the traditional green or gray
staining, but do not exhibit the characteristic petroleum hydrocarbon odors, may be deemed
uncontaminated only if negative readings are achieved from an Organic Vapor Analyzer(OVA) — n
In the event that slightly potentially contaminated soils are believed to exist, the soil can be
considered non-contaminated only if there are negative readings from the OVA taken within 3
inches of freshly dug soil on 3 foot centers around the entire pile or bucket
TEMPORARY SOIL SEGREGATION
i
Soil materials removed from the excavation considered potentially contaminated or knovAto be
contaminated shall be segregated into one or more stockpiles onsite The temporary soil stockpiles
shall be prepared by the placement of 10 mil plastic sheeting on the site directly beneath the
stockpiled caisson spoils,or placed directly in plastic lined rolloff containers or dump trucks
• Health and Safety Plan for F&H Construction
130 North Hunter St, Stockton, CA
P.- r
