' October 6, 2004
NOA Project Number: LE03-034
1.0 Equipment to be Used During Sampling
The basic equipment to be used for ground water sampling includes the following:
1. Gloves and other protective clothing
2. Disposable bailer and string;preferred method of sample collection
3. Submergible sample pump if needed
4. Sample bottles and labels
5. Kimwipe towel
6. pH,IDS, conductivity, and temperature meter
7. Field notebook, pencil, chain of custody form
8. Ice chest and ice
9. Liquid-Nox Detergent and distilled water
10. Electric water level meter (sounder), 0.01 foot accuracy
11. Two (2) graduated five-gallon buckets
2.0 Equipment Decontamination Procedure
Disposable bailers will be utilized to collect water samples from the monitoring wells. Should the
disposable bailer not be effective, a submergible sample pump may be utilized. Decontamination of
the pump will involve flushing and washing with a solution of potable water and Liquid-Nox
solution (or equivalent), followed by rinsing with distilled water.
The electric well sounder will be decontaminated prior to each measurement event with a solution
of potable water and Liquid-Nox detergent or equivalent, followed by rinsing with distilled water.
3.0 Purging Prior to Sample Collection
Three (3) wetted casing volumes will be purged prior to sampling. One (1)wetted casing volume in
a 2-inch diameter well with 15 feet of wetted casing is about 2.5 gallons.
' Should the ground water drop below the depth of the well, sampling may not be possible at that
time. If this should occur, the water levels in the monitoring wells may be affected by nearby
agricultural wells, though it is not expected. The well should be checked approximately one week
later at a different time and day. If there is available water in the well, sampling should be possible.
4.0 Monitoring and Record Keeping During Water Level Measurement and Well
Purging
During the water level measurement and well purging, a specifically designed field form will be used
to keep a record of the water level and some physical properties of the purge water. Attached to
this SAP is a field record to be used for each sampling event on each well.
2
