Level C requires either a half mask <br /> or full-face air-purifying respirator(APR) with a high-efficiency particulate filter(HEPA). <br /> Based upon the compound of concern at this site, petroleum hydrocarbons, Level D protection is <br /> considered appropriate and will be utilized. Level D includes: long pants, sleeved shirt, steel- <br /> toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and hearing protection. During water sampling activities, a <br /> modified Level D will be utilized and it the following in addition to Level D protection: nitrile <br /> gloves, coveralls (Tyvek) and disposable boot covers. <br /> Level C protection with `/z-mask APR equipped with organic vapor/HEPA cartridges will be <br /> required if VOCs exceed 50 ppm or dust levels are greater than 5 mg/m3. This approved HSP <br /> will serve as certification that a hazard assessment has been conducted and that the level of <br /> protection assigned has been deemed adequate if properly worn. <br /> 6.0 EXPOSURE MONITORING PLAN <br /> This section outlines the field monitoring strategies, action levels, and analytical methods which <br /> will be employed during the course of site operations. Monitoring will be conducted during site <br /> activities to determine personnel exposure to petroleum hydrocarbons and noise. Monitoring <br /> will be performed by the SSHO or a designee. Monitoring results will dictate the selection of <br /> appropriate rest periods and/or hearing protection required. <br /> 6.1 Cold Stress Monitoring <br /> Specific monitoring criteria will not be established for cold stress. However, employees will <br /> be familiar with the signs and symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia and adjust work <br /> schedules and warm up regimes for temperature and wind conditions.
