To settle the sand pack, the wells were surged with
a bailer and additional sand was added if necessary. An approximately 2-foot thick layer of 318-inch
diameter bentonite chips was placed above the sand pack. After placement, water was added, and
the chips were allowed to fully hydrate prior to completing the annular seal. The final annular seal
consisted of concrete, which contained a watertight well vault at the land surface. All wells were
secured with a locking well cap.
-- 4.4 Well Survey
k t
Location coordinates and elevation of top-of-casing were measured by MacKay & Somps for the
three groundwater monitoring wells PMW-1, PMW=2, and PMW-3. These survey data are
p summarized in Table 2; original survey reports are shown in Appendix B.
4.5 Groundwater Sample Collection and Analysis
. Before groundwater sampling, all wells were devby bailing except soil boring S13-3Boring
SB-3 was not completed as a groundwater monitoring well;however, for screening purposes, a grab
water sample was collected on March 11, 1998 before it was abandoned. All purgewater was
contained in lined steel 55-gallon drums with open-top lids. Groundwater samples were collected
for analysis from the monitoring wells on two separate dates, April 8, and May 13, 1998. Sampling
and analytical methods varied slightly between these two events.
CATEEL FILE5ICINTRA PAMONTRA7-11DOC
