Site Safety Plan: Subsurface Investigation and Safety Plan Page 4
Remedial Excavation of Hydrocarbon-affected Soil
Proposed Cintra Park Phase II Development, Tract 2705, Tracy, California
3.3.2 Heat Stress. If protective wear is required, workers will be provided beverages,
shaded rest areas, and breaks to circum ent problems with heat stress.
3.3.3 Physical Hazards. Walk-through safety inspections of the work area will be
conducted daily before the start of work and as conditions change. The results of
these surveys will be communicated to the work crews during regularly scheduled
"tailgate safety" meetings. The safety I rocedures and the day's planned operations
will be discussed at these sessions.
4.0 ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS
4.1 Flammable Atmosphere
If combustible gas indicator readings anywhere on the site are greater than 10%LEL, work will be
suspended, monitoring will continue as necessary to is late the area of concern, and some or all of
the following environmental controls will be carried out as appropriate.
4.1.1 Contaminated soils. Contaminated sol s will be sprayed down (if necessary) with
water or deodorizing chemicals to reduce vaporization of VOCs or permeation of
other gases.
4.1.2 Petroleum product vapors. Vapors from pooled petroleum product will be
suppressed(if necessary)by spraying wi h foam or appropriate chemical suppressant
or covering with soil.
4.1.3 Stockpiled soil. Portions of the stockpiled soil will be covered with plastic or
visqueen sheeting.
4.1.4 Air movers. Air movers will be used toventilate the areas or concentration to below
10% LEL.
4.1.5 Wells. Wells emitting excessive concentrations will be capped, or shut-in as
necessary.
4.2 Toxic Atmosphere
If airborne concentrations of the chemicals of concern exceed the TLV for the chemical, the above
environmental control measures will be carried out to reduce concentrations to below the TLV, if
practical. If such reduction is not possible, personal protective equipment will be used to limit
worker exposure during operations. If airborne concentrations of the above-mentioned chemicals
W'.1PRDlECTSU 023051ENRP01.WPD
