AGS
will be collected from all 21 borings once final depth is reached. The grab groundwater
samples will be collected from the uppermost water bearing zone (i.e., the SWBZ).
The borings will be advanced using truck-mounted, direct push technology (DPT)
equipment (e.g., Geoprobe)). Soil samples will be collected using DPT equipment
consisting of a 2-in-diameter, 4-ft-long core barrel outfitted with clean stainless steel or
plastic liners. Following sample recovery, the ends of the 6-in-long sample liners will be
covered at both ends with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps, and sealed with
adhesiveless tape. Each sample will be labeled, entered onto a chain-of-
custody/request-for-analysis (COC/RFA) form and packed on bagged ice ancuor bice
ice in a cooler for transport to the analytical laboratory. An example of the COC/RFA
form is included in Appendix C. The DPT sampling device is also used to collect grab
groundwater samples at the water table. Grab groundwater samples will be collected
with disposable polyethylene bailers from within the hydraulically advanced DPT core
barrels. Grab groundwater samples will be contained in the appropriate sample bottles
or glassware, labeled, logged onto the COC/RFA form, and placed in a chilled cooler for
transport to the analytical laboratory.
A lithologic description of the subsurface material will be logged in the field in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) guidelines (ASTM 2480-
90) under the direct supervision of a California Registered Geologist. An example of a
boring log is included in Appendix C. The soil borings will be backfilled to the ground
surface with neat cement grout following sampling activities.
3.2.3 Equipment Decontamination
All downhole drilling or sampling equipment will be decontaminated prior to and
between working at any borehole location. In addition sample barrels used to obtain
soil samples will be decontaminated prior to each sampling interval while advancing the
14
\\LAURA\C'.Wc mn60'WPCCCSX9'S CL'S\t 9950503C4c.1.Vork?'anNVcrk Pan xc
