S E C O R
Ms. Devra Lewis
May 24, 2005
Page 2
collection of a groundwater sample from one of the existing wells at the former Chevron
service station 9-8632 located at 575 West Grant Line Road (Figure 2).
WORK ACTIVITIES
The specific scope of work is described below.
SITE SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 Code of Federal
Regulations Section 1910.120), and by California Occupational Health and Safety
Administration (Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response"
guidelines (California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 5192), SECOR will prepare, or
modify the existing, site-specific health and safety plan (SHSP) prior to the commencement
of fieldwork. Field staff and contractors will review the SHSP before beginning field
operations at the site.
GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
A groundwater sample will be collected from one of the monitoring wells located on the
former Chevron service station at 575 West Grant Line Road, Tracy, CA. Before sampling,
the well will be purged of at least 3 casing volumes of water using a disposable bailer.
During purging, the groundwater will be periodically monitored for the parameters of pH,
electrical conductivity, and temperature. Purging will be considered complete when these
parameters have stabilized within United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
guidelines. After purging, a groundwater sample will be collected using a disposable bailer.
The groundwater sample will be placed in laboratory-supplied glassware, placed in a cooler
with sufficient ice to maintain the internal temperature at approximately 4 degrees Celsius,
and submitted under chain-of-custody record to a California State-certified laboratory for
chemical analysis.
SAMPLE ANALYSIS
A groundwater sample collected for chemical analysis will be submitted to Lancaster
laboratories Inc. (Lancaster). Lancaster is certified by the state of California (CA
Registration No. 2116) to perform the requested analyses. The groundwater sample
submitted for chemical analysis will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA
Method 8015B) by GC/FID. The resulting sample chromatograms will be compared against
standard chromatograms of coal tar, gasoline, kerosene (jet fuel), diesel #2, diesel #6,
N:\Files\Projects\Chevron\Retail\#3-2792 Tracy Pipeline\REPORTS\2005 Chevron Pipeline Characterization Work Plan.doc
