The site lies within the Sacramento Valley which is comprised of unconsolidated Quaternary
sediments from alluvial and lake deposits. The Sierra Nevada Mountains located to the east are
the source of the alluvium deposits as a result of erosion. Also contributing to the deposits are
the Sacramento Valley Coast Ranges to the west. Both ranges consist of a wide variety of
material consisting of plutonic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. First encountered
groundwater in the vicinity of the site is not known however based on review of nearby site data,
first encountered groundwater is expected to be greater than 30 feet below grade. Faulting in
present in the area with the Stockton Fault trending northeast/southwest is located within the city
limits, and the Midland Fault Zone (north trending) is located approximately 25 miles north of
the site.
Proposed Investigation
In order to further investigate the subject property we propose to advance six(6)Geoprobe® soil
borings at the approximate locations shown on the Site Plan, Plate 2. The main objective of the
Geoprobe® borings will be to obtain soil data at selected locations deemed to be areas of
concern(ADC's)to our investigation and to document the current soil conditions at the site.
The ADC's to investigate with Geoprobe® include but are not limited to the following;
-Hydraulic lift in vehicle maintenance areas at the JX Donaldson Tire Shop(APN 139-13-002).
- Parking lot adjacent to the J.F Donaldson Tire Shop (APN 139-13-003) at location of fuel tank
identified on historical Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps.
-Potential chlorinated solvent contamination onsite from current and historical dry cleaning
operations performed proximate to the subject properties.
Geopobe®Borings
A total of six (6) Geoprobe® borings will be advanced to total depths between 15 and 20 feet
below grade (BG), depending on site conditions. The borings will be sampled continuously from
approximately 1-2 feet BG to the total boring depth. If groundwater is encountered then samples
will be collected as well. HES has contracted with V&W Drilling, a C-57 licensed contractor
located in Stockton Ca, to perform the drilling activities. A California Registered Geologist
from HES will also be onsite during the investigation to observe the drilling procedures and
obtain soil samples continuously. Soil samples will be collected for classification, field
screening, and laboratory chemical analysis using 4-foot acrylic sample tubes Soil samples will
be classified in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System and recorded on Boring
Logs.
2
