Soil Samples
Soil Samples collected for laboratory chemical analysis will be cut from the acrylic lined sample
tubes in approximate 6-inch sections. Upon recovery, the sample tubes will be capped with non-
adhesive silicon tape and plastic caps, labeled, placed on ice and transported under Chain-of-
Custody to McCampbell Analytical Laboratories of Pittsburg, California for chemical analysis.
Groundwater Samples
If groundwater is encountered then samples collected for laboratory chemical analysis will either
be retrieved through new disposable bailers or through a surface mounted oil free pump with
new tubing and transferred into the appropriate laboratory supplied containers. Upon collection
the samples will be labeled and placed under refrigerated conditions pending chemical analysis.
Chain-of-Custody documentation will be maintained throughout the project.
Decontamination/Backfill/Disposal
Sampling equipment will be cleaned with a phosphate free detergent solution and triple rinsed
with clean water between sampling events. Drilling and sampling equipment to be reused will be
steam cleaned between borings.
At the completion of daily drilling activities, soil borings will be abandoned by pumping cement
bentonite grout through a tremie pipe until full, then capping with asphalt or concrete, where
appropriate.
The soil cuttings generated by the investigation will be placed in appropriately designated 55-
gallon DOT drums, pending offsite disposal. Equipment rinseate and any generated groundwater
will also be contained onsite in appropriately designated 55-gallon DOT drums, pending offsite
disposal.
Laboratory Chemical Analysis
We propose to collect soil and groundwater samples from each of the proposed Geoprobe®
borings. A total of twelve(12) soil and up to three(3) groundwater samples will be collected for
chemical analysis. Depending on the area investigated, samples may be analyzed for petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel and motor oil, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes
(BTEX), and volatile organic compounds (VOC's), using EPA Test Methods 8021, 8015, 8260.
Specific analysis requested will be based on the AOC investigated. For instance, shallow soil
proximate to underground hoist will be analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons with one sample
also analyzed for VOC's. All groundwater samples will include VOC's. Soil samples collected
from outside the Tire Shop Building will include petroleum hydrocarbons and VOC's. Chemical
analyses will be performed by McCampbell Analytical Laboratories of Pittsburg, California.
3
