What criteria will be used to determine how many additional
ed zwoons wells will be required?
Leprino Response: 7'he need for additional extraction wells will be based upon the
results of short-term pumping tests conducted on RWA, RW-3,
and RW-5. obsMation wells will be monitored during the test to
determine the area of influence of each extraction well. M
evaluation of the pumping lest data will determine whether or not
the three extraction wells listed above will be sufficient to contain
and prevent off-site migration of the dissolved and free-phase;
plumes beneath the site. If the data shows that these wells will not
prevent and contain the plumes, then additional wells will be
installed as necessary to ensure complete containment.
Cv-RWQCS Comment- What remedial meabares are being Considered for the dissolved
hydrocarbon phrme7
Leprino Responset Total fluids recovery has been selected as the remedial alternative
for the site. The eatrac:tiou wells will be designed to recovery
both free-phase and dissolved-phase hydrocarbons. Recovered
fluids will be directed to an oil/water separator. Free-product will
then be directed to a waste oil tank located within the aboveground
storage tank containment area. Discharged water will be directed
to the facility's cdoting biological waste water treatment system
for treatment prior to discharge to the City of Tracy's POTW.
It should W noted that low concentrations of 'TF-H compounds
were detected in MW-5 (59 ug/L) and MW-11 (94 uglL) during
the most reeent round of sampling conducted at the site on June
28, 1995. The results of this sampling event erre summarized in
the report titled 'Second Quarter .Ground Water Sampling and
Analysis" (Hydro-Search, Inc. 1995). The detection of TEE in
these was indicate that thte edge of the dissolved-phase
hydrocarbon plume has potentially migrated north and west of the
property boundary. Therdorc, Dino recommends the
installation of three additional monitoring wells at the site. Two
monitoring wells will be placed in the mobile home trailer park
located directly downgradient of the two monitoring wells
identified above. The third monitoring well will be placed
northwest of MW-14 on the opposite side of the railroad right-of-
way. The installation of these wells will help to fully delineate the
dlssolved-phase plume. These wells should be instaile d and
sampled prior to the installation of the recovery system-
Depeading on the sampling results of these three wells, it tnay be
necessary to relocate RW-1 through RW-4. At this particular
time, it is anticipated that the wells would be placed directly
